Green tea supports the thyroid in its production of the hormone thyroxine, and can help rev up the metabolism for hours. Several studies suggest that taking green tea extract or EGCG supplements can make you burn more calories — even at rest. Some studies even showed an increase as high as 8% in calories burned.
